Creative Effects Challenge No. 60 – Obama Hope Poster Effect.
Here is the start and the final Image:
The most complicated part of this challenge is the creation of the gradient.
So let’s get started.
1. Open an image that you want to use for this challenge.
2. Select the person/subject and place on a separate layer as shown below.
3. Turn OFF the visibility on the background layer
4. On the top layer - Go to filter>Artistic>Cutout
5. Enter the setting as shown, or feel free to adjust to fit your image. Then click on OK
6. Next add a Gradient Map adjustment layer
Now the fun part
7. When the Adjustment layer opens, click on the gradient shown to open the Gradient Editor.
8. With the editor open Add color points with the information as shown.
9. Click on the furthest Left Color (This is the 0% location). Click on the color and enter the color number shown
10. Do the same for the other four points. The important part is to place the point first. You can always go in and manually put the location
• Location 0% Color 00324d
• Location 25% Color e01825
• Location 50% Color 7498a4
• Location 75% Color fde5a9
• Location 100% Color fde5a9
11. At this point you may want to save your work. Enter a name in the name box – I used “poster” and then click the disk icon at the top and say to your desktop or some place you can find it in the future.
12. Click ok to apply to your image.
13. Create a composite of your image – (Ctrl/Cmd+Option/Alt+Shift+e)
14. Add a new blank Layer under this composite layer
15. Fill it with a gradient using colors from your composite image.
This part will add the horizontal lines
16. With the Magic Wand tool make a selection of the light blue or yellow.
17. Add a new blank layer
18. Add a layer mask to the new blank layer. It should be filled in based on the Magic Wand selections from Step 16.
19. Click on the new blank layer and make sure the layer is selected and not the mask.
20. File the new layer with 50% gray (Edit>File>50% Gray) and click ok.
21. Go to Filter>Sketch>Halftone pattern. Use the settings below
22. Click OK and change the blend mode to Soft Light or your choice.
23. Add a new blank Layer at the top.
24. Select All (Ctrl/Cmd+a)
25. Add a stroke – Edit>Stroke pick a size and color
26. You’re done
Here is the layer stack with named layers.
