Usually, when I click on a photo, or even right click to "open with", the photo will open in Elements 14, either regular or in the RAW mode, automatically. Last month it stopped doing that after I tried to fix this error message when trying to add text: "could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized". I forget how I fixed it, but I WAS able to use the text...until the next time I opened PSE14 again. I can open photos from within the program itself, but not by just clicking on them in my Pictures folder. So, this morning I uninstalled PSE14 and reinstalled... and it did not fix either issue Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this? Thanks! Wendy

Well, after further research, I was able to fix the text tool by renaming the folder; however, I am still unable to open a photo by clicking on it, even though PSE14 is the default for .jpg and >arw. Seems after the latest Windows 10 update, many people are having the same issue with the text tool... I'm wondering if that also affected the opening of the photos.....

The text engine initialization issue is indeed related to the Windows 10 Creator update; it is not a PSE issue. This was reported by another member here and the solution was posted.

As to the Open With command not working, . . . once again Windows is the culprit. It looks like the connection between this command and PSE 14 has been lost. We could use more details.
- What do you mean by "stopping work"? - Is PSE 14 listed in the Open With drop-down menu? - What is happening exactly?

It sounds like you have lost the association between the file suffix (psd) and PSE14. Try right-clicking on a file and selecting the Open With command. Then choose PSE14 and make sure you check "always open this file type with this program" or somesuch.

It looks like the Open With command is not "targeting" the Editor. When you set up this command, you need to navigate to the Editor .exe file and connect the Open With command with it.

I even made sure PSE 14 is the default program to open those types of files, and they still won't open. I'll continue looking into things tomorrow when I get more time

Are you connecting with the Editor or with PSE 14 as a whole? I was able to replicate the problem you are having. If the Open With command doesn't connect with the Editor .exe file, I will get the same results as you.
When I click or right-click to open a file, PSE14 opens, but the picture does not.
When you browse to PSE 14 to set up Open With, you need to get to the Editor .exe file.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 14\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe

The above worked, thanks! Don't know how it even got changed in the first place....probably happened with the Windows 10 update. Now I just need to load all my brushes and actions back in.
Thanks, everyone, for all the help!
