Hi, I'm using PSE 15 and only downloaded it a week ago. On a new Mac also. I was working with layers 2 days ago and the page froze. I think I had too much open and had to close out. I've noticed since that all 'recently opened files' aren't loading. I checked preferences and it allows 20. Of the 20 there are about 5 recent files but not the very latest and the rest are older ones. As I use this feature I lot I'd like to make sure it's working properly. Can anyone suggest what might be happening? Thanks.

This is a known bug in PSE15 unfortunately. Once the most recent files list reaches 100 (even if you're only showing 20), it stops working properly. Much unhappiness about it on the Adobe forums, but they haven't provided a fix yet.

There is a long discussion of this bug in the thread below. You may want to check it. A fix was posted although its effectiveness is a hit-and-miss situation. Another suggestion is to change your workflow to accommodate this bug.

Hopefully, this bug will be "squashed" in Elements 16.

Thanks everyone. I just posted my problem to the Adobe forum to add to the feedback. I'm on a Mac and the only workarounds were for Windows I think although I didn't have time to search all threads. Bit of a pain isn't it.

With Windows, the limited solution is to delete an hidden file (machineprefs) and to set the count to 100. You create a shortcut for that file and delete it when the count reaches 100... I have no idea where such a file is stored in Macs. The problem is much less critical if your workflow involves the organizer. The recent files list of the organizer (only files opened from the organizer) works as before. Also, most of the time, you are working with albums, keywords or import batches that help you to find recently edited files.
Windows users can use the explorer to display and sort files within a folder by date modified.

Thanks Michel, I saw that advice but can't find those particular files on my Mac. They might be buried in a different file but I wouldn't be game to mess with them. I noted that someone said another version of Elements was due out in October. Looks like I should have waited. Elements 13 was great and I can't see any differences really. Not yet anyway. Still having the same problem selecting layers with few pixels too. I have finally worked out that using the 'show boundary box' helps. The 'auto select layer' can be a pain also but I've finally figured out it needs to be unchecked unless you're deliberately looking for a layer in a long list of layers and have the cursor on it its location on the file.
It's the little things that help with work flow. I don't know that other people work with a lot of layers all the time but I do. Thanks again to everyone. Appreciate the help.

Thanks again Sepiana. There are just so many threads and links and it's confusing for a tech klutz like me. I did follow a few suggestions (to the T) but couldn't find the files. I have just found the link that Michel provided to Jon's site which provides both a Windows and a Mac solution and is very clear even to me but I get as far as Library/Preferences then have to navigate to a folder named Xsan to find any PSE Files and most are .plist. None have the word 'path' or 'settings' in them that I can see. I'm on a small laptop though and the text is compressed. I'll do a more thorough search soon as I get a minute. I'm wondering if the OS matters. Anyway I'm onto it thanks to Michel and Jon. If I have to do this every week it's probably not worth my time. I can easily use 100 files or more in less than a week. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to help people like me. xx

If this is a problem for anyone on a Mac, we can go to All MyFiles in Finder and all the recent files will show up in order. In a way this is more helpful to me personally because I can see them.

ALL MY FILES -- Thanks so much for that hint. I looked it over and I can see it really helping me. Note: I had to go to "GO" at the top of the screen - to find "all my files" EDIT: Under 'finder preferences" I clicked on "all my files" and now it's in my sidebar again. Now I remember removing it way back when

Flora, thanks for posting this workaround for Mac users! While we wait for Adobe to fix this bug, workarounds will have to do for both Mac and Windows users.
There is also this savvy advice given by Michel B for Windows users.
Windows users can use the explorer to display and sort files within a folder by date modified. And for both Mac and Windows users, . . . the Organizer to the rescue.
