Some nice examples of architecture for last month's theme. This month we will be asking you to look for "Shadows" when you go out to shoot. Shadows can be used to create a mood or add interest to your image. Shooting for shadows doesn't limit you to shooting during a particular time of day, so go out or maybe even shoot indoors, whenever you have the time and see what you can come up with for this theme. Two articles that I found that might be helpful to you when exploring this topic are this one by Picture Correct and another by DPS. Looking for shadow images by masters of black and white photography, I thought these three might be inline with what most of us tend to shoot. Two Callas by Imogen Cunningham Pike and Henry Street by Berenice Abbott Two Barns and Shadow by Minor White Additionally you may find some inspiration from the black and white images included in this search on 500 pxHere are two images that I took in anticipation of this theme: u.cubeupload.com/HMCA/F8A9949EditEdittextu.jpgu.cubeupload.com/HMCA/F8A0565EditEditGolde.jpgLooking forward to seeing your shadow images this month. Please feel free to comment or ask questions of the other participants in this challenge. It is our hope that we will all learn from each other in the black and white challenges.

Definitely moody, Bob. Thanks for getting us started. I especially like how the light coming from the open door in the second image makes me wonder what's beyond.

Here is an offering that may or may not be appropriate, as it is more like a silhouette than shadow. Anyway, I used Nix Silver Efex Pro 2, the Full Dynamic preset.

Tpgettys, you might want to try a levels adjustment bringing the middle slider over to the right. This would emphasize the shadows and enhance the silhouette look you have created. Additionally you might want to try the different blend modes on the levels layer. If you like the results I hope you'll post back. We are all trying to learn from each other in this challenge. Thanks for joining in this challenge!

Had hoped to go out and photograph some shadows, but alas it has been cloudy for the past few days and it has just started snowing!! Guess I will have to try and create something indoors in the next couple of days.
I am really enjoying the different entries to this already.

I finally got around to playing with my image a bit more. I used the haze removal and the dust & scratches filter as well as adding a threshold layer as Helen suggested.

Thanks hmca ! I guess I need more direction and encouragement these days. Tomorrow is my 70th and have been suffering under the weight of it. Not uncommon I know, but still weighty. My father passed when he was 69, so that has been on my mind all year; be glad to get that behind me!

Tpgettys......it's just another day. Thinking about it just makes it that much more weighty. If you think too much then you'll start to think you're old, then you'll start to act old.....then you'll be old. Just keep doing all of the things you did 40 years ago, the same way you did them then. That way, you'll stay about 30 for the rest of your life. Easy-peezy..... And if it's any consolation, I'm only a very few years behind you.
