There has been some interest expressed in HDR of late and I just ran across this article so wished to share it. It briefly discusses what HDR is, and Darlene shares her opinion on when to use it and not. While I don't agree with her entirely it is a short enough article to be well worth the read. To HDR or Not – When and If You Should Use HDR?

TFS, Tpgettys. In my circles, at least, it seems the overcooked look is a thing of the past. I especially liked her point dealing with shadows being it is the topic of this month's B/W challenge.

I use exposure bracket-sets quite often and run them through an HDR program, usually Luminance and sometimes Picturenaut. I often cook off two or more merged images and then layer them for the best effect. If I think that the dynamic range of a scene warrants multiple shots and HDR, I will take them hand-held if the tripod is not handy; Luminance has always been able to align any deviances such that anyone that didn't know any different would think that a tripod was used.
At least in my neck of the woods, the sun seldom cooperates and is more likely to go against whatever I am trying to do, and I seldom have the luxury of returning when conditions are better; so, bracketed sets and HDR are quite often called upon to make things work.
