I know most have moved on from PSE 9 but when I correct an image and go to "save for the web" it shows in preset on the upper right; custom, and then gif in the first two rectangular boxes. I keep changing it to jpeg and high quality but it defaults to custom and gif for every image. I got it to default to jpeg a couple years ago but don't know how I did it (or did it "learn" to use jpeg) ?

intel7 -
I'm not familiar with PSE9 but I think it makes sense - gif is the native format for the web.

intel7, welcome to PSE&M!
PSE is supposed to remember which format you want to use when doing Save for Web. Once you select JPEG, it should stick. Unfortunately, there was a problem (bug?) with some of the earlier versions of PSE and the program would not remember your choice. See if this workaround will fix this.
- Change the format to JPEG. - Hold down the Alt key. (The Help button will change into a Remember button.) Click on the OK button.
NOTE:
You will need to run PSE as administrator to do this workaround. You will have to run PSE as administrator only this time.
If you don't have a shortcut to launch the Editor directly, you need to create one.
- Navigate the path below, right-click on the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe file, and select "Send to Desktop>create shortcut".
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9.0\PhotohopElementsEditor.exe
Now run PSE as administrator by right-clicking on the Editor shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator".
