ATTENTION!!!
There is no longer a "next Sunday" posting deadline. You can grab your camera, take your photo, and post it in this thread any time you wish to.
Hi everyone,
Would you like to participate in the Weekly Photo Challenge? Just take a photo that is your interpretation of the theme and post it in this thread.
- Your photo(s) should be your own, i.e., they should not have been taken by someone else. - Photoshopping is allowed but should be kept to the basics only rather than a total transformation. - Grab your camera, experiment, and, most of all, have fun.
NOTE
This week's theme was suggested by billz (Thanks, Bill!) In his own words, this is what the Cropped Square theme is all about.
And to help you and your camera "go square": - Place the focus on your subject. - Consider including negative space in your composition. - Don't hesitate to break the Rule of Thirds; you may place your subject in the center of the frame.

Good choice of subject (thanks Bill!) particularly as my Fuji XE-2s mirrorless has 1:1 as an image size option and I'd never tried it before. Seeing it square in the viewfinder does help a bit with composing the shot though having spent some time shooting 1:1 I'm not sure it makes a lot of difference seeing it before or cropping after. Still cold but at least blue sky and no wind so was was quite pleasant out taking photos. Here are a couple of winter scenes: Tony

Here's my attempt from today...... Helen, your still life shot was perfect for the cropped square format. The curvy lines of the items made a really nice contrast with the lines of the cropping. The reflections are a bonus.

First shot -- I love the composition (filling the frame, with the tree branches coming into the frame from the corner). Simple, yet a classic! Second shot -- Simply beautiful! It looks so abstract! It is the kind of image that makes one look at it more than once (as I did).

Went out shooting today and came home with a few for this theme: Helen, good thing you were able to get out and capture these shots for this week's theme. You nailed Cropped Square in all three. My favorite is the first one with the leading lines created by the railing and the chairs (benches?). Great DOF! I really like the whimsical touch -- the single shoe. It makes one wonder about the story behind it being there.

In that photo of the birds, I love how they are standing on the flat service rather than perched on the wire - even though the wire is in their way. That's such a cool photo.
Square photos are nice - they take the eye immediately to the subject matter.
Edit: in taking a closer look at the birds - what I thought was a wire is the lines on the tails. Oh well. Still a great photo.

One more before the last bit of snow melts! Spotted this old crane while driving past this evening and couldn't resist stopping to see if fitted within a square - and it did. Touched up a bit and a border added in ON1 Effects. Tony

Thanks for humoring me with the theme Sepiana! I hope everyone is having some fun with it. The center is a pretty obvious place for the focal point. But I think the format also lends itself very well to negative space and putting the subject off in a corner. Leading lines work well diagonals work well too ... and if you're in the mood it's easy to add a touch of zoom blur using your favorite editing software. Thanks again Sepiana.

Three photos which I took yesterday while strolling in the park. Dennis Denis, you nailed Cropped Square on three counts! Great choices of subjects and composition -- subject in the center of the frame (squirrel), horizontal lines (birds), and vertical lines (ornamental grass). You do have an eye to find subjects which will be enhanced by a square format.

Touched up a bit and a border added in ON1 Effects. Tony Tony, what a finding! That crane was asking to be placed in a square. Great composition with lines going diagonally across the frame. Our eyes just follow them from one corner to the other. This image would make a wonderful triptych.

This is a sculpture entitled "Late Bronze Root". The snow was added by Mother Nature. Pete, this is a great image -- cropped square + a touch of color. I can see this on the wall. Beautiful work!
