How do I open those post script pattern files found cdrive/program files/Adobe/Element 15/presets/patterns/postscript patterns. In the regular pattern file they have PAT extension but the post script ones are Al extension. I once knew how to do this but have not worked in Elements for such a long time that I have forgotten how to do so many things ! TinaB

Tina, which version of Elements did you use before? I believe this was possible in Elements up to version 11. We could do File>Open, navigate to Patterns>PostScript Patterns, and open the .ai file in the Editor. Starting with Elements 12, if you try to do that, you will get this error message. This was one of the changes Adobe introduced in Elements 12.

My old version doesn't work either so will just give it up. But why is it still included in newer versions of PSE if you cant open them. ? I just thought it would be fun to use.

As far as I know, those files are included in ALL versions of Elements. As a rule of thumb, you don't do File>Open to use them. Elements offers you these ways:
- Edit>Fill . . .>Pattern>Custom Pattern - Paint Bucket tool - Pattern Stamp tool - Healing Brush - Pattern Fill layer
