I’m finding this difficult to put into words but here goes and I hope you understand.
I have noticed that when I put text on my page and have to adjust the ‘leading’ the choices given are either Auto or 6points – 72points.
My problem is, in a page I did recently I chose leading of 60 points but it shows up in the leading box as 16.58. I don’t understand this and was wondering if anyone could explain why it doesn’t just show up as the 60 points I chose from the drop down menu.
I have come across this before and find it confusing that is why I'm asking.

BillieJean,
I have to admit I am baffled. I tested changing the leading in ALL the versions of Elements I have. What you describe doesn't happen.
Will you please give us more details to help with the troubleshooting?
- Is this happening in ALL the versions of Elements you have? Or is it specific to a given version? - Has it been like this since you installed Elements? Or is it a new development? - Does it happen when you type your text? Or do you have the same problem when you use a Text box? - When this happened, did you try resetting the Type tool?
I have just thought of something else . . .
Did you by any chance apply Free Transform on your text PRIOR to changing the leading?

Did you by any chance apply Free Transform on your text PRIOR to changing the leading? I’m having trouble with this site tonight so hopefully I can post my reply this time. You have hit the nail on the head Sepiana. The problem only occurs after I use the free transform tool on my text. Otherwise everything is fine. I would never have thought of that myself so thanks for solving the mystery for me.

Just adding a clarification for the benefit of those who may be following this thread (specially new users of Elements) . . .
This is not an anomaly with the Leading setting or a case of the Type tool (or Elements itself) misbehaving. Elements is doing EXACTLY what it is supposed to do. The Leading setting enables you to control the spacing between the lines of your text as measured in points. When you apply Free Transform to resize your text, the change is reflected in the Font Size box. This means that, when you "tell" Elements to adjust the Leading, Elements is going to "look" at the size displayed in that box and go from there.

Thank goodness. I was trying to do the 'Text portrait poster', and had a similar problem.
