whippet recently asked about creating specific colors using the color swatch. Coincidently, I received this information about color combinations yesterday from Shutterstock. I thought it might be of interest to our members when working on creative projects.

Helen, Thank you for this. I am using some of these to create LUT's for color grading images to give them a specific look - just like in the movies.

Thanks very much Helen - It is chock-a-block with colour combinations, some which may be useful one of these days!

This is a really good online colour scheme designer I sometimes (well, rarely actually) use to get the complementary colour of a given colour. It does a lot more than just give complementary colours. If you're into scrap booking or graphic design it might be worth a look if you don't already use it. Online Colour Scheme Designer

I do this with my scrapbook pages. I choose a color from a photo and make a background paper with the color and some coordinating brushes. The color picker is a great friend for scrappers. Sometimes it's just way easier than trying to find a background paper from the many kits on the hard drive. Especially if your aren't as organized as you should be. LOL

I choose a color from a photo and make a background paper with the color and some coordinating brushes . . . Sometimes it's just way easier than trying to find a background paper from the many kits on the hard drive. You can also save any color you pick using the Color Picker by saving it as a swatch and adding it to the Color Swatches panel. You can create your own library and keep your custom swatches separate from the ones which come with Elements. You can also rename your swatches to make them more easily identifiable and delete them if you want to. Just a little management and your custom colors will be readily accessible!

Sepiana....creating gradients was something I had thought of doing, too. Didn't know about creating your own library of color swatches....will have to look into that....great tip!

Sepiana....Didn't know about creating your own library of color swatches....will have to look into that....great tip! Helen, I learnt that tip from the Elements guru . . . Barbara Brundage.
I am also thinking of adding those color combinations to the Adobe Color Themes extension in Photoshop CC. I have never done it before; it is going to be an interesting learning experience.
Use the Adobe Color Themes extension

Just added the extension to PS. Seems like you can add combinations using the LUT's that Frank mentioned....but I might be wrong. Will have to come back when I have more time to explore this.

Thanks, Bailey . That's a nice addition to this thread. No problem Helen My sister, who is involved in design work, put me onto it. I use it on occasions I need help to choose a colour for text that I need to put above an element in an image.
