Pat,
I am not a Mac user; I have to admit I am baffled. Hopefully one of our Mac users will come to the rescue. I will bring this thread to their attention. Hang in there!
Several weeks ago I began getting an error message in the MacBook Pro only, "There is a problem with Generator. Please quit Photoshop and try again. etc." I ignored the error message. Adobe has provisions in place addressing this error message. The instructions are for Photoshop CC but you may want to check them anyway.

I am using PSE 14 on High Sierra 10.13.3 and am not having any issue's, However I do bot have have all of the freeware loaded that you do. Upgrading from El Capitan and bypassing Sierra and going to High Sierra means you bypassed a ton of upgrades. From 10.11 to 10.13.3 was 16 IOS updates. Based on the fact that these are older freeware, My guess would be they never upgraded their code for High Sierra. An example is SaveHollywood 2.4 corrected an issue in 10.8. The MyWay may have been a present from one of these "freeware" apps. Things that I would suggest to try: 1. Eject those drives shown in your screen shoot from your desktop. 2. Follow the link in Sepiana's mail to remove the GENERATOR plugin from PSE Remove the Reflow generator plug-in, which is installed by Edge Reflow. To remove this plug-in, go to the below location and drag the reflow-generate plug-in out of the Plug-ins folder: Mac OS: Applications\Adobe Photoshop Elements 14\Support Files\Plug-ins\Generator The Plugins should be listed in alphabetical order. Hope this helps.

Hi Frank
Thank you so very much for taking the time to suggest all the above. I am going to take this MacBook Pro with the information you sent to a good friend who is great about working through issues like this. I did consult with her before posting here and while neither of us knew what was going on we both suspected, as you say, that MyWay piggybacked in on one of the free downloads. I've also learned that malware can plant itself even though I don't actually do the final download of a free app.
You are dead right about jumping from OSX 10.11 to 10.13.3 the way I did bypassed a ton of upgrades. It's why I did it on the laptop and not on the iMac. I was concerned about how it would go.
I have done a lot of video editing on the iMac. Since the videos are always for friends and family, I have to be mindful about not spending a fortune on programs. I'm not happy about having to download freebies, but often it's my only way to achieve an effect I want. rats
I will be sure to post back and let you know what happens. Again, my thanks for your suggestions. Pat

Hello Sepiana
Thank you for the info about the generator problem message. I did find that and worked through the steps as best I could, but did find it difficult as my computer did not match some of the steps suggested in the article. I do plan to take this laptop to the Apple store and see if they find malware that I can't recognize. A lot of this is just beyond my knowledge.

Sepiana and Frank,
Quick update. I have learned that Photoshop Elements 14 is not compatible with macOS High Sierra 10.13. I've not read that specifically myself, but have no reason to doubt it. Certainly I am having issues with PSE14 in macOS 10.13. I am going to Apple today to try and sort this out.
My question to you is this: The project I am working on is a big one for me. I am going thru all my photos, picking out the most important and putting them in a hardbound book. It's a lot of work, I already have hundred of hours into it over the past few years. I'm probably halfway thru the process. My fear is that the operating system and programs I use may change greatly before I have a change to finish this book. I might get caught having to redo pages or format (or heaven only knows what) because good ole' Apple moved on.
What do you think about this? If it's not something I need to worry about and I get busy and finish this in the next 12 months, I will go back to El Capitan in the MacBook Pro. The work for this project is being done mainly on an iMac which is still running El Capitan. The MacBook Pro is where I do small parts (photos, images)and add them into the main project on the iMac. Until my bonehead move of installing High Sierra on the MacBook, both computers were running exactly the same operating system.
Incidentally, the reason i did this in the first place is because I read about all the great improvements in the PHOTOS app with High Sierra. I can really use those improvements, but if going back makes the whole process easier, that's what I will do.
My apologies for the length here. Just needed to explain.
Pat

Been to Apple. The thought there was that rather than reinstalling El Capitan OSX 10.11.6 into the MacBook Pro, it would probably be better to install macOS 10.13 (High Sierra)in the iMac and then Photoshop Elements 18 in both iMac and MacBook Pro. That way both computers would be running the same operating system and the same version of Photoshop Elements. It certainly is the least expensive way to go. I guess my main concerns are two: how will other programs run under macOS 10.13 and will work on my project in the iMac be affected by the new os system? I think I can find some of that out by checking on the MacBook Pro.
Any thoughts?

Pat - you may need to un-learn that. I'm have elements 15, 14, 13 and they all work in High Sierra. I am using 10.13.3.
Good luck with the downgrade - hope it resolves your issue.
The only reason I ever open Photos or iPhoto is to move images from my phone to my computer.

Pat, I am not a Mac user. Therefore, I am the least qualified to address this issue of PSE 14 incompatibility with High Sierra. However, there are many reports on the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum which confirm what Frank said.

Pat, I have a question. Did by any chance your version of PSE 14 come from the Mac App Store? I seem to remember reports on the Adobe forums about problems developing when one uses this version.

Sepiana, If you are asking me all of my installs where done from disk or BH download. The app store sells at full price and I'm always looking for a deal. The only version they offer is the current, a search for adobe photoshop returns Elements 2018. A search for Photoshop elements returns nothing.
The only issue I have ever run into was having a font installed twice, however I don't remember what it caused.

Sepiana, If you are asking me all of my installs where done from disk or BH download. Sorry, Frank. I was not too clear about my question. I was asking Pat. She is having all these problems with PSE 14. I was wondering if she had originally purchased the Mac App store version.
EDIT: I fixed my previous post to clear up the ambiguity.

When I first posted I said PSE14 was opening in a bizarre manner. This was on a MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.3. I worked with a few images at that time and everything seemed to be okay with PSE14 despite the odd way it was opening. I uninstalled PSE14 and reinstalled it. There was no improvement; it continued to place .dmg icons (I guess they were) of a bunch of apps on the desktop every time I opened the program.
That's when the question of whether Sierra was compatible with PSE14 was suggested to me (by someone in my family), etc. You know all that.
A trip to the Apple store today didn't shed much light on the situation and I was told that the genius bar appointments are filled up solid for the next two weeks!
So tonight husband decided to do the uninstall/install thing with PSE14 although I did that a couple of days ago. Well, guess what?? PSE14 opens just fine now. I have absolutely no idea why, but there seems to no problem at this point.
In answer to your question Sepiana: I didn't buy my copy of PSE14 at the Apple App store. I can't swear to it, but I think I got it directly from Adobe because I have the program on a CD that was sent by Adobe.
So at this point I think the best thing is to keep using PSE14 on my MacBook Pro for a while. If all is well, then I will upgrade the iMac to Sierra as well at some point down the line.
Many thanks to you Sepiana, Frank and Major for helping me with this issue. It's been a puzzler, but I wonder if it was malware or something that was causing the problem.

Pat, great news indeed! I am so happy to hear . . . "PSE14 opens just fine now".
If you have a CD, you probably purchased it from one of Adobe authorized retailers (online or local). Adobe made some changes a few years ago. They no longer sell the boxed version of PSE on their website, only the download version.
