Almost forgot my cardinal rule this morning - putting a date on a layout. Whenever you make a layout where it will be helpful to know the date of the occasion, put a date somewhere on the page. It can be small and inconspicuous, or part of your design. No matter what, like all those photos sitting in that shoebox, where you don't have a clue when it was taken (or who is in the photo), dating your layouts and putting other descriptive info on your page will be so important in the future. Even the most important events, where you are sure you will remember the details, fade into that memory void called life.
On a side note - a simple title can be achieved by duplicating your title layer. Change the color of one layer and shift it over a couple of pixels. You can add styles to either or both of the layers for even more interest. If you are still designing your page, link the two layers, so you can easily move both layers around your layout. Do not merge the layers, because you may change your mind about the colors or other things about the title. If they are individual layers, it will be easy to make changes.
On this layout, I also fell back on one of my often-used photo treatments - layer style> glow. (remember you can change the color and size of your glow) I used to use layer style> drop shadow on all my photos, but I really like the simplicity of glow. You can still add a drop shadow (like I did on this layout) but realize it will change the way the glow looks, but try it - you may like it.
Glow is my fall back idea when I can't think of anything else to do with a photo and it seems to add just enough of a touch to make the photo edges seem more finished.
I know the reference to Quick Study is a little strange, but I needed a layout starting with the letter Q. LOL
