Not an editor question, but didn't see any place for this question, so - I'm thinking of upgrading this computer, and the one I'm looking at does not have a CD drive. I have Elements 10 on a cd, what I'm wondering is if there is any way to get it on to a new computer without the cd drive?

Thanks Ken. That was actually my first guess, but then I thought because it was several versions old I wouldn't be able to do it any longer.

I've installed to a device with no CD/DVD drive. I just copied the contents of the disc to a USB flash drive (click and drag is my favourite method) then, once the USB drive is seen in your device/PC then just double click on the 'setup' file, which will be an exe/application. Then follow the instructions as if you were installing from a disc. Hope this helps

Um. how did you copy the contents to a USB drive if you didn't have a CD drive?

Um. how did you copy the contents to a USB drive if you didn't have a CD drive? In pwahl's original post, s/he said they're 'thinking of' upgrading a new computer which doesn't have optical drive So, if pwahl copies the disc contents (plus any other software required) to a USB drive, or even external drive etc, while s/he has the current computer, then the software can be installed if/when pwahl gets a new computer [Edit - I used the optical drive on my PC to copy to USB]

I guess my instincts are correct anyway. (he - pwahl = Patrick) Thanks for the suggestions. Current computer is developing some sort of illness.

Hi Patrick Yes, your instincts are quite correct. Copy the disc now, while you can, along with any other software you want to install on a new machine. If you've got an external hard drive, that would be ideal, of course Pleased to have been able to reassure you Julie

Not to worry, MajorMajor - Your question helped to get clarification of the situation and of a solution, hence the OP is more confident now and other readers may be able to benefit from this thread I think it was a fair question J

Another option would be to purchase external CD/DVD burner which might come in handy for other things. They are USB connection and not to expensive either.
