For the past few times I've come into this site, I've been interrupted the the middle of reading a post by a pop-up from Windows (I think?) which tells me I've won something (an IPOD or Galaxy). The pop-up kicks me right out of PS&M and when I come back in again, everything seems fine.
How can I get rid of this?
Is anyone else having the problem?

Have you got an adblock installed? I use Adblock Plus, which does an excellent job.
It may also be useful to run a malware/adware scan on your machine.

No I don't have an adblock and I do have Kaspersky running on my computer. I haven't run into this problem on any other sites (so far).

Ok, well I would run a virus scan and a malware/spyware scan to be on the safe side.

Pat, I don't have this problem. But, like Simone, I use Adblock Plus. We have had other reports about pop-ups (error messages, etc.) when one accesses this forum and often they are triggered by the banner ads. Give it a try and post back with the results.

Also, follow her advice and run a malware scan on your computer. Just to be on the safe side!

Interesting......I have adblock, but have it disabled for this site. When it was active, I would get this pop-up to please disable as the ads help finance the cost of running this site. If I continued to ignore the pop-up it would eventually not let me access our forum. That was a couple of years ago. Think I'll try it again and see what happens.

I have adblockplus, but it's disabled for this site for the reason Helen mentioned. Haven't seen anything like srmoment describes.

I haven't seen this on this web site, but I used to get it, or something very similar, occasionally on other web sites. The pop up windows usually have an address bar so you can see the domain name it came from. To stop these annoying pop ups I simply blocked all traffic from the domain name in my router's firewall. I haven't seen once since - must be 18 months to 2 years now. If you're not comfortable meddling with your router's settings, perhaps block all the traffic from the domain name in your Windows Firewall. I also use an adblocker, but I see that as my second line of defence, not my first. |
