Hello, I am using Photoshop Elements 14. I have a file of a t-shirt mock up that should have editable layers. however when i open the file the layers are labeled "non-editable adjustment". I saw in older posts that there was an action 3rd party thing... but that was for elements 10. How do i edit these files? any help is much appreciated

Hi seaton, welcome to PSE&M! Glad to have you here.
Your file contains Layer Groups. Elements 14 cannot open them; only Elements 15 and above can. Fortunately, there is a free action (.atn file) which will do the job for you (and it works in Elements 14). You will find a detailed explanation of Layer Groups and a zip folder with the action for you to download in . . .

is there an updated installation guide?
this one is outdated and the folders are different, and i am not savy enough to do add and delete things i am not 100% sure about hehe
this is the read-me file for elements 7... i have 14...
1. Place .atn and .png files into this folder: [vista] C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Photo Creations\ photo effects [winxp] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\ Photoshop Elements\7.0\Photo Creations\photo effects
2. Remove the "MediaDatabase.db3" file from: [vista] C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US [winxp] C:\Documents and Settings\ All Users\Application Data\ Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\ Locale\en_US\
3. Run Photoshop Elements 7 Image Editor
4. Wait for Photoshop to rebuild (10-20mins) Note: Windows might tell you Photoshop has stopped responding while it is working. This is normal, don't close it, it's still doing it's thing.

Just ignore the instructions in the ReadMe file; they are for Elements 7 through Elements 10. Adobe made it much easier to use actions in Elements 11 and above. There is no longer the need to install them in the photo effects folder, delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file, etc. In these versions you just load the .atn files to be accessed via either the Actions panel or the Effects panel (Photo Effects tab). Here are the instructions how to load an action via the Actions Panel. (As I said in that other thread, there have been reports that dconsc's action won't work when loaded via the Effects panel.)
1. Go to the Window menu on the top bar. Click on Actions in the drop-down menu to open up this panel.
2. Click on the four-lined square in the upper right corner of the Actions panel and select Load Actions.
3. In the dialog box that opens up navigate to where you saved the action (.atn file) on your computer and click on the Load button. (Or you can just double-click on the .atn file.)
4. Select the action you want to run. (In this case, the AA- Ungroup Layers action).
5. Click on the Play button in the panel’s upper right corner to run the action.
