Welcome to this week’s Image of the Week presentation. I was pleased to see so many varied and diverse images in the galleries this week. Thank you to everyone who contributed. So, without further ado, let’s get right to the selections.
Honourable Mentions (in no particular order):
The Painter - hmca
Another one of Helen’s superbly composed and processed black and white images, this one is an interesting study of a scene within a scene. With the way the canvas has been positioned I felt like I was standing behind the artist watching a master at work. I wanted to extend my gaze beyond the image to see the spectacle before him.
Tall and Green - Simone
As Cuba is high on my bucket list of places I would love to visit I was naturally quite intrigued with this image. To me it presents so much of what I have envisioned Havana to look like - colourful and decaying facades and 57 Chevies! I would love to have seen this image resized a bit larger so that I could have perused all of the magnificent detail more in depth.
Red Wattlebird - bailey
I love to promote Australia and found this to be a beautifully composed image of an interesting looking and colourful native bird. The bird has great clarity and detail and really stands out against the beautiful soft background bokeh. This image would fit right into a field guide to Australian birds.
Image of the Week (IOW):
The Accordion Player– PeteB
This is certainly a scene that one doesn’t stumble upon every day (well, I don’t anyway). Wonderful capture, great composition, and terrific b & w processing. I like how the subject is posed to one side while looking up and away from the camera. Placing him off to the side has also made him really stand out from the darker background. Other aspects I really like about this image are the clarity, contrast and rich range of black and white tones. The scene itself reminds me of the kind of zany scene one would see in a Jim Jarmusch film - I love it!
