Not sure if this would help you but you could always create a folder on your desktop and copy/paste the pictures from the SD card into that folder. In PSCC go to file>open and navigate to that folder on your desktop. By opening in RAW you can quickly go through the pictures and delete any that you don't want to keep. I think it would be helpful to know where you keep your LR pictures? Mine are on an EHD and I have come up with a process that makes importing to LR and editing in PSCC rather simple. Once I have the folder in my LR Pictures I can then import them into LRCC from the EHD.
Would this process help you? Others might have some other options to offer.

I think that makes a bit of sense. Do I have to download ACR? It’s free right? Thanks much. I will have to give it a whirl after I recover from a late night of configuration of the new toy. I also keep my photos on ehd

If you have PSCC, I am thinking you have RAW....but check your cloud subscription and see if it's there or you need to install/update.

Have you tried to convert your images with adobes DNG converter to see if they will load as DNG's?

I don't know what I did differently earlier but I just snapped a photo of my pin cushion (exciting stuff) in RAW with my new camera and was able to import to LR6 and then edit it with PS cc and then send it back to LR. Had to change it to 8bit from 16bit but other than that it worked. Who knows what I did earlier. Must be the heat! Helen you are correct I do have camera raw installed. I am so dense. Been using PSE & a D7000 for years and a switch to PS cc and D7500 has me like a fish out of water. Thanks for your input and I am sure it won't be the last time I cry for a life preserver!

I downloaded a d7500 raw file and it open with no issue in Lightroom classic CC and Photoshop CC 2018. It did not open ic CS6 extended or elements 14 or 15.
I sounds like you have it working.
