The first time I opened Lightroom 6 it was fine. All my pictures showed up. When I went back later only a few of the pictures appeared. All the other previews were blank. Does anyone have any idea what I did to cause this and how do I correct it? I think the pictures are "missing" but they are still in my "Picture" folder.

When you look under the Metadata for that photo within Lightroom, and you hover your cursor over the "Folder" field, it should show you where Lightroom thinks the picture is. That should be where you think the picture is. If it isn't, then one of a couple of things could have happened: - Lightroom is looking for the pictures in the original location where the photos were copied from (like the SD card); or - Somehow the photos were moved outside Lightroom

Thanks for helping Sargenta. I see what you mean but I don't think that was my problem. It seems I have many catalogues and I finally found the latest one for 2015 that I wanted to use.
It is very confusing that I have so many catalogues when I only want one or two. I wish I could combine them into one. Do you happen to know how to do that?

Looking pretty good now. I've combined most of my catalogues into one and things are much simpler now.

Berie, if you use collections instead of catalogs.. You will have only one catalog and so many collections you want. The collections will not affect on how your catalog is presented.

BerengariaThis may be another positive answer to the so-oft-asked question; How many catalogs should I have? And, so often the replies come back - as few as possible, one should do. (Save for wedding photographers, other professionals, or other special situations.) LR offers many ways to correlate photos which do not need interference with the catalog/file structure. Glad you have got an acceptable classification/catalog system going.

Since I got Lightroom a few years ago I do only have one catalogue and do all the filing in Collections. I don't even use Keywords any more. Of course, my numbers are tiny compared to most of you folks. Now I have consolidated all my old catalogues (from I don't know where. I think it was from trying to get the iPhoto pics into LR.) into the one in LR. Hopefully, I'm getting myself organized finally.
Thanks for all your help.
