It's wheat harvesting time here too and I had thought about a combine but they were pulling the pump from an oil well for cleaning across from the wheat field so I'll go with that instead - the oil well is over 100 years old, not very productive and the equipment being used is not much younger but it works most of the time and a barrel of oil a day is better than nothing! Tony Tony, great shot! I love how you got up close & personal with that oil pump. You captured all the texture details on the pump (rust, nicks, dents, etc., etc.).

WayneS , what an interesting interpretation of this theme! It is so vintage (and nostalgic).
I would love to see a shot of a modern combine/single operator. That would really show "we have come a long way". Can you get one?

This is the Burgh Island sea tractor. Burgh Island is off the Devon coast, and is famous for having a hotel which is cut off by the tide twice a day. In its hey day it had a lot of famous visitors, including Agatha Christie who wrote and set a couple of her books there. It is still a luxury hotel today. When the tide is in, access is by this specially built machine, of which this is the third since 1969. The sea water comes up to just above the tyres. Alex, simply beautiful! Great shot -- colorful, sharp, well composed. And the bonus? How it relates to Agatha Christie, one of my favorite authors. (I have all of her books.)

Rick, what an amazingly clear shot! We can easily see the two people inside that machinery. Great job! Sepiana, this is actually the modern combine I was referring to in my post. There are two people in the cab, but not a necessity, as a single operator is all that is required. And quite likely sometime in the not to distant future the combine will be programmed and operate on it's own!!! WayneS

Bill, I knew you would find something mechanical. It was worth the waiting. Great shot on more than one count (composition, DOF, details)!

Clive, great shot! Impressive details, bold colors, . . . and lots of mechanical "stuff".

Len, great finding! I really like how you captured the wheels (zooming in) and your choice of going B&W.
I don't remember your participation in the WP challenge before. So, welcome aboard! Looking forward to your continuing participation in this challenge.
