I just noticed this weird file in a just-as-weird place; Photoshop Temp17717938280.
It is time-stamped to coincide with about the same time last night when I left the computer, with E7 still open and a half-finished project still in the window.
Besides being something that I had never seen before, instead of being in the folder where the pictures are kept, it is not in any folder at all, but just loose in the parent "drive".
I Google-searched for answers; but, more and more so lately, Google is proving to be about worthless, bringing up millions of things that are not even remotely connected with whatever I type in the search bar.
It is 915 mb and is only identified as "file"
Can anyone shed some light as to the what and why of this mysterious file ?

Thank you, Sepiana. To put things into perspective, I just snapped this screenshot of "Properties" of my Appdata/Local/Temp folder that displays the unbelievable amount of junk that is abiding in the Temp folder. These are the Photoshop Temp files that I found in there; note also the On1 application .exe file: Along with just about everything else one could imagine, I was surprised at the large quantity of application files I found in there; the majority of them were unrecognizable to me and I have no idea what they are. I also found tons of full-resolution jpegs in there. The folder may be "Temp", but there is nothing temporary about the residents; there are many files in there as old as the computer itself. I wonder what would be the outcome if I just deleted the whole mess. Of course, the file that started this whole investigation is not in the Temp folder at all; they may be scattered all over.

I don't have that much "stuff" in my Temp folder. I guess it is because I regularly do a Disk Cleanup and in the process I select Temporary Files to be deleted. Here is how they are described in the Disk Cleanup dialog.
