I have just started using Organiser. I notice that when I do a Catalog backup, it is more or less equivalent to the size of all my photo folders. When I looked at the backup file it contained all my images, both jpg and RAW, at their original size. I assumed a catalog backup would only contain the tags, keywords and data paths to each image, not all the original images as well!
Is this the norm? can I then use the Catalog backup as the secondary backup of all my images (assuming all images are in Organiser)? or should I still do a further independant backup of images. Currently I do a complete system backup including data and then another backup just of my images to a different external hard drive. ANd the catalog backup goes to yet another external drive.

Hi HappyScot,
Yes, that is the norm. You can do full or incremental catalogue backups. A full backup will backup the catalogue file (which is the SQLite database behind the Organiser's GUI) and the appropriate image files. The location of each image on the HDD, along with all its other meta data which you can view/edit in the Organiser, is stored in the database catalogue file which makes it easy to restore or transfer your catalogue and images to another computer.

That is a bonus that's not advertised! HappyScot,
You mentioned in another thread you are using PSE 2018. I would like to bring to your attention that Adobe changed the interface and functionality of Catalog Backup/Restore in this version. You can find detailed information about catalog backup (full, incremental, multiple catalogs, etc.) in the Adobe document below. (See Chapter 6: Managing catalogs, folders, and albums. The instructions for catalog backup start on p. 111.)
