Another St. Mary's Church, this one in Beddington Park. It was built in the fifteenth Century by the Carew family, who were lords of the manor at that time. Rumour has it that the body of Sir Walter Raleigh was buried in the Carew family vault after his execution in 1618. The vault is sealed, so the truth of this story will never be proved.
Dennis
Dennis, what a beautiful shot! I love the sunlight falling on the church (like a spotlight) and the shadows in the foreground. Fascinating rumor to go with this church!

Bailey , your shots did justice to the interior beauty of St. Patrick's Cathedral. Really nice!

A church from yesterday's walk in Norfolk, breaking off from The Peddars Way as we head north to the sea.
Brenda
Brenda, you have the eyes of a photographer. Great composition -- "signs" of urban, modern life in the foreground and the street leading lines drawing our eyes to the church. Beautiful!

A National Historic Landmark, San Xavier Mission was founded as a Catholic mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797.

Can't compete with those really old churches in whippet land but this is the oldest in this area which was built in 1856. Interestingly it was started by a lieutenant in the Royal Navy who came over from Scotland to start a commune. The commune didn't last long but the church they built is still going strong. I did have to photoshop out the electrical cables which are strung right across the front of the church and of course because I know they were there I can still see the remnants but content aware did do a pretty good job. TonyLovely picture, Tony. And I can't see the cables.

Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre, Quebec Wayne, great capture! You did justice to the architectural beauty of that church. Beautiful colors and vivid details! I really like how you added a second shot (of the interior of the church).

I am curious. Is that a grapevine forming the roof of the church?

Thanks Sepiana. I believe it's Wisteria. It's just beautiful when it's in bloom.

Thanks Sepiana. I believe it's Wisteria. It's just beautiful when it's in bloom. Bill, thanks for answering my question! I used to have a couple of Wisteria plants growing on a trellis by the house. No green thumb here; I killed them.
