This is one of the 3 locals that shortly before sunset came hopping through the cabins where Mrs. B and I were staying at while visiting the Grampians National Park (Victoria). All editing was done in PSE 14. I used Levels and Brightness/Contrast adjustment layers to highlight the kangaroo and darken the background a little. To create the shallow DOF, I used Gaussian Blur with a Black to White Gradient on the layer mask starting from just behind the kangaroo to the foliage in the background.

Pleasing composition, good light and background. Funny "stunned" expression on face. Would prefer face/eyes to be sharper. No Kangas and Roos in the frozen north.

Hi Clive, Unfortunately I didn't have much time to set up. I was called to come outside quickly, so I just grabbed my camera, set it to aperture priority and set the ISO to 400 since the light was fading with the sun beginning to set. The shutter speed ended up being just 1/30s. The Image Stabilsation helped a lot to get reasonable sharpness but for some reason images are a little softer when displayed via imgbb. Other people came over to have a look as well and so the kangaroos stuck around for only about a minute (max.) before hopping off back into the bush. I didn't have time to play around with different camera settings. I just wanted to get some photos and then hope for the best in post processing .
