I would like to order a large canvas print from Groupon and was wondering if any of our esteemed forum members have made such kind of purchases from Groupon or other online companies? If so, were you happy with the print? Did it look as good as it did on your monitor? Were you happy with the quality? Has it retained its colour over time? Any thoughts or feedback would be most appreciated.

If you mean those which make a photo look like a painting, then, yes, I have two. They are 12" x 12". My daughter sent two digital photos of a couple of my dogs to an internet firm. When they arrived, they were already stretched on to a backing frame. I have had them hung for about nine years now. I made sure they were on a wall which did not get the sun. As far as I am aware, the colours have not faded at all. I don't know about as good as on my monitor, because that is an entirely different thing. This being canvas, you don't get the same effect. Otherwise, just make a big enlargement of the photograph.
She obviously can't remember the name of the firm now. Unfortunately there aren't labels on the back of the pictures.
Hope this has been of some help, Michael.

Thanks for replying Margaret. Sounds like your canvases are of great quality if they have lasted for 9 years without showing any signs of fading. Unfortunately, I will be hanging mine on a wall which does get some sunlight during the morning, so inevitably I suppose it will probably fade sooner than later. I wonder if there is some kind of spray coating one can buy to protect from UV light damage.

... If so, were you happy with the print? Did it look as good as it did on your monitor? ... Hi Sydney, I have had only 2 canvas prints made in the past. Both were from 2 different reputable bricks and mortar printing services, not online. On one the colours matched very closely. On the other, the skin tones were slightly more reddish than I would have liked but still very acceptable and both are still hanging on walls in my home. But one thing is very important imo if you want a good chance that the canvas colours will match what you see on your screen. You must have a calibrated screen to prepare your image for printing.Any reputable printing service will use a calibrated screen and custom printer profiles for their print media. If you don't use a calibrated screen, it is very unlikely your current screen settings will produce the same colours on the printing service's screen. They might be close though. I would ask the printing service to show you how your image looks on one of their screens and see if you are happy with the colours. If yes, you can order the print. If they can't show you your image on one of their screens then it's a bit of a lottery regarding how the colours on the canvas will look compared to your screen. But in any case, please be aware that no printer can produce all the colours that are digitally available on a computer screen. That is why you have, or should have, a "Rendering Intent" setting in the print dialog box to handle out of gamut colours (but that's another story). So if you use a calibrated screen the colours on the canvas should match at least very closely. If you don't use a calibrated screen, it's a bit of a lottery. Hope this helps and good luck

We have 14, full-wrap canvases in the house ... from 8 by 10 inches to 24 X 36 inches. They are all done by a Costco third-party contractor in Vancouver. I've also done a few more for donations, including one with a dark wood exterior frame, i.e. the wood goes around the 2-inch-thick wrapped edge..make sense?
Love canvas prints! Very happy with colors and general reproduction.
