Walking around the lake at the Summer Palace in Beijing, we came across this ancient style boat moored at one of the jetties.
The original photo shows the really thick pollution there, so I had a bit of a play with various adjustment layers to turn the image into a sort of art image and ended up with this.

Really like the boat itself and I understand the sky problem which you have rendered well. (I've been to Beijing 12 times on my way to northern China and Mongolia...a most satisfying part of my career.) However, there is something (what??) very flat with the water section of the photo. It has no depth and perhaps there is too much "empty" water and not enough sky. I'd crop some off the bottom and add more sky if possible ... even removing about half of the water section would help ... at least that's what my eyes think. Clive Whose first and last names when sounded roughly translated in Mandarin to say "man with one ear riding in a boxcar"  |

Serenity, is so true.
Personally, I think those men look out of place. Would they have looked better in national costume.
Inside the cabin, is that a long dining table and chairs, Bailey?

Hi Clive, Thank you for your thoughts  In the original I applied the Ocean Ripple filter under Filter->Filter Gallery->Distort (PSE14). I see what you mean about maybe there being too much water in the background. I have cropped some of it out in this version.
Although the crop now turns the image more into a panoramic view, I feel it does empahsise the boat a bit more, which is the subject of the photo. |

Thank you for your thoughts also .
Unfortunately I don't know the purpose of the boat. While we were walking along the banks of the lake, we came across the boat which got my attention so I took just a quick photo as we continued on. I didn't walk down the jetty to the boat to find out more about it.
There were numerous other boats, different to this one, on the lake taking visitors out for sight-seeing tours. There are certainly many chairs lined up inside and possibly a long table. The 3 guys could have arrived early for a dinner cruise on the lake. I really don't know what they were doing there or waiting for.
