What an amazing gallery this week with a real variety of images. There were some really special architecture and landscape images, but I have taken a deter from my usual choices as follows: Succulent growth reworked by Alexr - I think this image is very successful in projecting motion and growth and I love the colors. London Skyline by Fotofrank – these silhouettes have lovely rhythm against the skyline and I love the sunset with the last or first rays of the sun on the left. Frozen soap bubble at -26°C January 11, 2018 by Pontiac1940 – the rhythm and colors caught in the soap bubble are so cool! (ahaha….sorry!) ….and a special mention to Pontiac1940 for his outstanding bald eagles ( Bald Eagles thread in show your work). My IOW goes to: Mom’s 90th Birthday Cake by TPGetty’s – What a wonderful capture of a special moment! There is just something about your mom’s expression and the lighting that kept bringing me back to this image. …and, there is a very intriguing painting in the middle of this image……

Beautifully presented, Pat! Thank you for judging and sharing your thoughts about the selected images. I agree they are each wonderful.
Tom, you certainly captured the decisive moment. Bet your mom will be thrilled to know her photo was given this week's top honors.

Thanks srmoment for your support. But, WOW, TPGetty's shot of his mom is just great. Good lighting and composition, but mainly a great expression and "pose" well captured. Very nice Tom. Clive

Congratulation to all who made the cut this week. Again, many lovely images to make the judges choice difficult. Special congrats to the IOW by Tom.

The images continue to get more exceptional. As Lillias says, another difficult choice for the judge. Well done to all.
Tom - amazing. A shot like that could not be staged.

srmoment , thank you so much for this nice complement. It is interesting that you noticed the painting behind her; it was painted for her by one of her grandchildren who has a real artistic bent. Thanks also for the many nice comments; we have such a kind community here! As as you can imagine, this image was sheer serendipity. We try so hard to be conscious of the light and shadow, fore and background, but sometimes the best images just fall into our lap. That certainly was the case here.

Sorry, late to catch up with this. Thank you so much for selecting my reworked image as one of your picks. And congratulations to everyone else selected, but particularly Tom for that lovely evocative capture of a precious moment in time. Tom, you say it was sheer serendipity, but it isn't just that. You were there ready, pointing in the right direction, with a camera set to the right settings; most people would have either missed it or it would be blurred, out of focus, too dark, too light or any manner of ways this stuff goes wrong. So her wonderful expression may not have been planned but the beauty of the image is also down to your inherent skill.
