Lots of great images to choose from this week and I shortlisted three that are similar to images I have taken but are a million times better due to the artistry of the photographer. taco40 took a great picture of a Canada? goose with a great blurred background the colour of which suggests the colour of the bird itself. The expression on the bird is brilliantly menacing and a great title made me smile: ‘I have but one weapon with which to defend my lady.’ fotofrank ‘Dahlia’ is a beautiful close up of a beautiful flower, the complementary colours make this image pop and the focussing and detail captured is stunning. pontiac1940 ‘Kestrel. Near Cowley, Alberta. Aug 19, 2018.’ Now I am a sucker for Birds of Prey and I love Kestrels, we have lots in the UK and you normally identify them hovering over local fields. This picture could be straight from a Bird of Prey photography workshop but I believe it is a wild male bird that has got something in its talons. It is my Image of the Week - Well done Clive. Thanks for all the submissions this week and thanks to hmca Helen for organising IOW.

Thanks for judging, Mark. We all tend to bring our own experience to the judge's bench which helps to shape our choices. Thanks for explaining the reasoning behind yours. Congratulations to new member, taco40. It is nice to see a new member quickly take an active role and create a gallery . fotofrank, dahlias are one of my favorite flowers to photograph....yours is a beauty. pontiac1940 is another new member who's name is quickly becoming recognized due to the active role that he has taken since joining. Congratulations for taking top honors this week.....your bird is beautifully captured!

Mark
Thanks so much. Congrats too to taco40 and fotofrank! "wild male bird that has got something in its talons." Yes, Mark, definitely a wild bird and it has a large grasshopper in its talons. Never been that close to a kestrel before that actually sat still for a few seconds. Most pleased.
Thanks for your kind words Helen.
Thanks again,
Clive
