A friend just posted about Fitz Henry Lane, America's foremost Maritime painter. His work is immersed with beautiful light and looking at the paintings made me think of some of the different looks we can achieve with textures. Thought you might like to see a snippet of his work. More can be seen here.

Funny that before I read through your entire commentary, Helen I was thinking how one could achieve a similar result with the right photo and textures. It certainly is a beautiful painting to be sure though!

What beautiful pictures. Yes, we have great textures and light control but not the romantic subject matter. That's not easy to come by. Helen lives near the ocean and has done some very beautiful pictures of it and it's surroundings. But then, she has done many fine pictures on many different subjects. Some people just have talent.

Thank you, Berie. You are certainly right about subject matter. Beautiful sailing ships for sure!

Thank you Helen for the inspiration since I am heading to the ocean soon! I hope to get some photos to work with.
