Think this would work better writing with a stylus rather than a mouse......or using the other method he showed. But for now this was: Colorful image from Pixabay

Thanks, Major Major, for sharing this amazing find. I try to imagine the intricate knowledge of the inner workings of Photoshop necessary to develop a trick like this.

I gave it a go, and this is what I came up with. The first effort was very disappointing because I could not write with the mouse well at all. To help me out with that I created a text layer and used a blend mode (soft light?) to lessen the effect of the text color. I was then able to trace the text much more reliably with the mouse.
