I have acquired an annoying problem that has been going on for the last few months; hours and sometimes days after I have already received an e-mail notice that a thread that I have posted in has been updated and I have already visited the site and looked at the new posts, I will get more e-mail notices regarding the same.
Often, I do not know that these are erroneous messages and I will open the site and find that it is another case of the little boy crying wolf.
Is anyone else receiving these false alarms and what can be done to correct it ?
Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

Buckskin-
How do you have your notifications set? I almost never found it---; everything is set "never" except for Participated and Personal Messages which are set to "Instant"

Hmm. You've got me. Maybe some funkiness with ProBoards, which hosts our site. Not sure it's something we have any control over.

Just an example: I visited the site about an hour before and looked at everything that was new since my last visit. I went away and did something else for a bit; then, I returned to the computer and my e-mail had three messages telling me that threads I had participated in had new posts. I re-visited the site and there was not anything new there that wasn't already there on my earlier visit.
If this erratic behavior continues, all I know to do is to just turn off all e-mail notices, as they are just proving to be an untrustworthy annoyance.

I have noticed that there is quite a bit of delay in notifications. If it annoys you, do as you said - turn them off.

BuckSkin - It is possible that one of the posts in the thread has been edited. If you provide me some of the threads in question I can have a look.

BuckSkin - It is possible that one of the posts in the thread has been edited. If you provide me some of the threads in question I can have a look. I delete the e-mails as soon as I see them, so specific examples would just be a guess on my part. I just turned OFF all e-mail notifications for the time being. It is no big deal; many sites have no e-mail notification abilities whatsoever; however, those sites that do have excellent e-mail notification abilities sort of spoil one to the fact.

[off topic] Does your email app actually delete a message immediately? Perhaps you have settings/prefs set to do that, but I have most of my mail accounts est to only delete from the servers if the deleted messages are 7 or more days old. That allows me to search for messages I mistakenly ( an extremelie raire eror, of corse!) deleted won. [/off topic]
