I excerpted this quote from Berengaria's thread about PSE+ so as not to muddy up and derail her conversation.
PeteB, please expand upon and enlighten me on this mediadatabase business, what it is, and why it is advantageous to "trash" it ?
Thank you.

BuckSkin, I am afraid this thread has slipped through the cracks; I am going to get the ball running. Hopefully Pete will notice it and will elaborate on his statement.
The MediaDatabase.db3 file "caters" to the Content/Graphics as well as to the Effects panel. When something goes wrong with this file (gets corrupted/damaged), these panels will be affected. For example, they may display no effects, i.e., they may be blank. The usual fix if to locate this file and delete it. Then, when you launch Elements, the program will rebuild this file. If you have Elements 10 and earlier, when you install third-party actions (.atn files) and styles (.asl files), you also need to delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file. This will "force" Elements to rebuild this file with your add-ons.

Hi Buckskin I like to add individual tools/commands to the PSE Effects panel. This is especially true when I am adding items from E+. I have create categories like Camera Raw; Color; Curves, etc. Each category contains specific items. In order to place these new items and categories in the Effects Panel, the MediaDatabase needs to be re-built. The Reveal MediaDatabase command in E+ is easy and quick for the location and eventual trashing of the db3 file. Here is an Elements+ link elementsplus.net/help/en/commands_to_effects.htmHTH

Thank you, Sepiana and PeteB; I was expecting it to be something a lot more dramatic; that Reveal MediaDatabase command is very much like the short-cut I put on my desk-top to the Elements Preferences file.
PeteB, can you put a specific tool/command in more than one category ?
Ages ago, I did put the Add Layer Mask and Adjust Layer Mask commands front-and-center in my effects palette; I've used them so much that I have wore the paint off of them.

Hi again I like to group the items for easy access. Instead of a lengthy explanation, I posted an image to illustrate my setup. HTH
