Hi all My Epson XP-340 scanner (and printer) was working a couple of days ago for scanning and importing images into PSE 2018. Tonight, the scanner function will not work and this error message appears in PSE. This issue also occurred a few months ago with PSE 11 ... can't remember if I resolved it or that's about when I purchased 2018. The computer and Epson are connected wirelessly. The printer function works in Word and in PSE. I've done no Windows updates recently. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer. Remember, I an no computer techy .... so type slowly! Corrupted Epson driver? Re-install? (UGH!) Something else? Thanks Clive

Hi Clive, I don't import photos from the scanner directly into the Organiser, so I can't help with your issue. But since you say your printer works with Word and PSE (I assume you mean the Editor and not Organizer), as a workaround until your issue is resolved you should be able to use the EpsonScan software that should have been installed with your Epson printer. If it wasn't, you can download it from the Epson web site.I use EpsonScan for all my scanning with my Epson Workforce 435 (printer/scanner/fax) - photos, documents, pamphlets etc and it works well. I then import scanned photos into the PSE Organiser from a folder on my PC, just as I do with my raw images from my camera.

Thanks Bailey! That is a workable solution and although adds one step I scan very few docs anyway...usually a recipe for my wife. So this will totally work for me. I'd prefer to not start messing with installing drivers etc. I actually use Epson scan software to scan docs to PDF. Doh, never thought to use it for scanning docs to jpgs. Did a quick test. All good. Thanks, Clive

No problem Clive . With Epson Scan you can save scanned documents to jpeg, pdf, tiff and bitmap. The first thing I would check is that your WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) service is running on your PC. Depending on your OS, the steps will be similar to this: 1. Click the Start button in the bottom left corner of your monitor 2. Type services.msc in the Search Programs/Files box 3. In the Services window that pops up, scroll down the Name column and look for "Windows Image Acquisition". 4. Check the setting in the WIA service's Status column. 5. If it is not "Started", right-click the service name and select Properties. Then click the Start button.

Something is wrong with the WIA ... I'll just use the work around, i.e. using the Epson scanning software directly. Will search for a solution, but I don't want to mess around inside Windows 10. Thanks Bailey.

Thanks Bailey. No problem Clive. The reason I prefer Epson Scan for scanning is because it gives me more options and flexibility to configure the scanning how I want than scanning directly into the Organizer does.

Something is wrong with the WIA ...
Clive, I am coming back here with two questions.
Did you ever solve the WIA problem? I checked with the experts on the Adobe forums. If all your troubleshooting efforts didn't solve the problem, you should check with the manufacturer of your scanner (Epson). They are the ones to provide support for WIA (not Adobe). Adobe's role is to provide the code to access WIA.
Did you try installing the TWAIN plug-in PSE 11 as I suggested earlier? I went ahead and installed it on two copies of PSE 11 (Windows 7 and Windows 10). It works beautifully. Now I have both scanning options -- TWAIN and WIA.
The installation process is a piece of cake. I found these instructions by Barbara Brundage, a PSE guru.

Sepiana Thanks so much again. No! I never did anything...just used the Epson software to scan. I promise to look at your suggestions tomorrow night! Clive

Sepaina Thanks again for all of your exploring in my behalf. I delved into Dario de Judicibus' suggestion and got stonewalled. The WiaRpc was the closest and no PID # was posted there. I am going to look into Epson's role in this tomorrow. Thanks. Clive

Sepiana, thanks again for the suggestions. I can't get the scanner to work inside PSE 2018 and will just use the Epson scan software directly...I don't scan much anyway and most scanning to to make PDFs which the Epson software is good at. My ASUS laptop is 5½ years old and a new one is somewhere in the future. Next year. This is not a biggie, just a tad frustrating. An actual techy might make this work ... After following the Epson fix (which did not work) and downloading new drivers, this is what happens.
Epson process.... the WIA is paused and will not "resume."

I cannot offer any help, but I will say this (I am assuming you are using a wireless connection - if not, then this will not apply); I have not yet found any kind of wireless printing or scanning to be very dependable. Just to be annoying to me, my mother insists on printing and scanning wirelessly, thus causing me to waste at least several hours re-associating all of her wireless connections every time I visit her.

Thanks BuckSkin. Yes, it is wireless and works with the printer (Word and PSE) and scans via Epson software. My wife wirelessly prints quilt patterns and recipes (like I need more food..ha ha) using her tablet while she sits upstairs having her morning coffee. Anyway, for now, I'll let this slide. Thanks again Sepiana and Bailey.

Of course, it's that Any Key again. People have been looking for it for years.
