I had a bit of a play with various adjustment layers in PSE to try to come up with something with a little more "pop" than the original image. Layer stack Before After

Hi Bailey,
The original stormy rocks photo is a nice subject and well composed. As you noted, a "pop" would help it as it is a bit "flat" and some adjustments perhaps are needed to give it more impact.
Your "after" picture it is cool looking and looks like a moonlit photo. Arty.
But to my eyes, your "after" image is now a different image because the changes go beyond making it "pop." As an arty photo it works. As an enhancement of the original it is too manipulated and bordering on being garish.
BTW, we live way too far away from oceans, but love visiting coastlines...been too long.

I appreciate the work which has gone into the picture. But I prefer the original.

Hi whippet and Clive,
Thank you very much for your feedback and thoughts . I totally see where you are coming from given I posted both "before" and "after" images.
It's interesting for me to see how differently people can perceive an image depending on what information is presented with it. I was tossing up whether to post the original image or not. My intention for this thread is to show how the look and feel of an image can be dramatically changed with minimal edits so I decided to post the original image and the PSE layer stack I ended up with to produce the "after" image.
At the same time, I posted just the "after" image on 500px with no additional information and it received very encouraging responses. A long time friend of mine also asked me if I would mind making a print for him (it's in the mail).
