I enjoyed perusing the small, but quality field of entries in the galleries this week. There were a great variety of fine images indeed. Here are my selections for this weeks IOW:
Honourable Mentions:
backwards glance (as titled on Flickr) – srmoment
This is a fine photo art piece. I really like the background with the feathers, geese flying in formation, and muted pink and blue tones. Great processing on the goose with nice detail throughout without over sharpening. It really made a splash with me!
Vibrant - dandc
When it comes to photography Dan consistently delivers the goods time and time again and this image is a prime example of what a fine photographer he is. True to its title this image would brighten even a pessimist’s day. As I continue to learn more about the so called “rules of photography” I am impressed how the placement of the bee in this image perfectly conforms to the rule of thirds.
Image of the Week (IOW)
Old Friends - tpgettys
I found this to be such a sweet and endearing composite with a title to match and one that really pulled at the heart strings. The use of textures and desaturated colour have been used to great effect to impart a subdued and slightly melancholy mood while the composition as a whole works well to tell a tender story. We see a slightly hunched over figure from the back holding a cane and wearing a hat and long red cloak standing in the middle of a narrow road presumably feeding the crows. Although we cannot see his (her) face one gets the sense this is a kindly person of advanced age who has lived a long and joyous life. As we peer down the road one gets the feeling this person is on a journey into the winter of their life. Of course, this is just my take on the story, but that is how I saw it in my mind's eye. I found this image so powerful in the emotions it evoked within me that it I had to wipe away a tear. This fabulous work really ticked all of the boxes for me hence my selection of it as the Image of the Week. Congratulations, Tom on crafting such an extraordinary image and thank you so much for sharing it with all of us.
