Hi everyone, Would you like to participate in the Weekly Photo Challenge? Just take a photo that is your interpretation of the theme and post it in this thread. - Your photo(s) should be your own, i.e., they should not have been taken by someone else. - Photoshopping is allowed but should be kept to the basics only rather than a total transformation. - Grab your camera, experiment, and, most of all, have fun.

Second attempt to submit this contribution. Lucky enough to be staying on the Norfolk coast, where I came across this beacon, once the first means of communication of important news, good or bad. Dennis

A more modern means of communication of news, good or bad. I walk past it regularly and it was sure nice to see it today with a clear blue sky. Tony

Dennis Dennis, great shot! I really like the silhouette effect, the light reflection on the water. Beautiful! And the bonus? The history behind the beacon.

The bare tree branches seem to mimick the lines of the tower. Great composition -- leaning branches drawing our eyes to the tower.

In July 2014, I was fortunate to travel into the Arctic. We went to Taloyoak, Nunavut above the Arctic Circle. Amazing place and unimaginably remote. Loved it! Below is an inukshuk. (Similar concept to Dennis' fire box.) Today, these rocks piles are often made in the form of a human, but these are "arty" ones for tourists ... we have one in our front yard, just because they look cool. The one shown here is one of dozens of "working" inukshuks we saw scattered across the barren grounds on high points of land. They are maintained and used as markers to guide hunters and travellers going across land. (Unless you've been there, it is hard to imagine just how isolated it is. Safety is always a concern.) The link above has a good description.

Clive, nice shot -- uncluttered composition, clear details on the rocks.

Helen, great image on more than one count -- composition (the Rule of Odds), DOF, and . . . choice of subject.

@ kdcintx. I had been wondering where I could find an Indian sending smoke signals.
@ billz. I remember that too well. (Showing my age).

Thanks to kdcintx for the telephone line idea. I don't think actual telephone lines on poles have been used for decades. These were shot in 2010. There are also still a few ramshackle poles east of Edmonton. No smoke signals.
