First of all, thanks to everyone for posting in their individual galleries these past seven days. Way more images to choose from this week than during my last IOW judging. There was a wide range of styles and subjects. As hard as one tries to be objective, there is a lot of subjectivity in selecting the "winners." Here are my picks.
This week's IOW is
bobharron's Wash day in Portofino, Italy
It's a narrow side street in "old town" where people go about their daily lives: cook and do laundry and perhaps go to work. Bet there is a bottle of wine or two inside #56.
I just like this photo as it is simply ... well, it is appealing. The somewhat symmetrical composition, although far from textbook thirds' guidelines, is pleasing. The blueish laundry at top balances well with the pink-reddish flowers on the ground. The warm-colored doors balance each other. Interesting that the top and bottom parts and the doors form a frame, but don't really frame anything significant. If I was to find "fault," the warm light is a tad flat, however bright sun might have ruined the softness. Good eye. I like a lot. Nice photo Bob.
Runner ups in no order are
PeteB
Fife and drum---color sketch.
This color sketch created from a simple photo is processed well. There is zero clutter, and other than the tiled ground, this photo has two objects, the drummer and fifer. Its simplicity is appealing.
Berengaria
Old buildings
(Barn on Mill Cross Road with Snow)
Again, this simple photo is appealing to my eyes. I like the composition and slight perspective (diminishing lines) of the buildings. The soft pastel-like colors have been muted in PS or perhaps the day was dull with light snow falling. The colors and light suit the subject: old and worn and faded like a good pair of old jeans.
