I have used elements 5 for over 10 years on a desktop and have just purchased a laptop with windows 10. According to the Adobe website PSE 5 will not work with Windows 10 but I am not sure if I load a newer version of PSE onto my new laptop whether I will be able to transfer my old version 5 files from the desktop to the laptop. Hope this makes sense and that somebody can advise on the best way to proceed. Thank you.

Hi poba, welcome to PSE&M! Glad to have you here. There is plenty of evidence that earlier versions of Elements (back to version 2) will work just fine when installed on Windows 10. One way to keep potential problems at bay is to follow Adobe suggestions. - Run Elements as administrator. Right-click on the shortcut and select Run as administrator from the menu. - Run Elements in Compatibility Mode with your OS. Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties>Compatibility> . . . I am not sure if I load a newer version of PSE onto my new laptop whether I will be able to transfer my old version 5 files from the desktop to the laptop. Do you use the Organizer? Are you talking about the files in your catalog? Can you give us more details?

The files I want to transfer are photographs and scrapbook pages I created to tell the family history. The pages have photographs, documents, clipart and text on them. I really don't want to lose them. I can use PSE without any problems but my brain doesn't cope very well with technical stuff.

That shouldn't be a problem. There are ways to transfer your files from your older computer to the newer one.
Would you rather keep Elements 5? If so, install it on your new computer and follow the Adobe suggestions mentioned in my previous post.

Thank you so much for your help. I will be quite happy to keep PSE5 and will follow the instructions above. Thanks again.

You are most welcome! Let us know how it goes.
BTW, it may be a good idea to temporarily turn off any antivirus software, just for the duration of the installation process.
