Hello,
I understand organizing is one major weaknesses in my life. It carries over into PSE. I have PSE 18 on a Windows 10 machine. I have 100K pics in one catalog. I have two external hard-drives.
Sometimes Windows would switch the drive letters on me when I have moved drives around (ie. unplugged one external HD -- to put in a thumb-drive, then plug the external HD back again later).
I now know how to avoid the above problem.
I am wondering if there is an automated way to fix most of what is going on or . . . if I should delete current catalog and simply start over.
I did the file - find - missing files. It found 20K missing photos. I can't do those one at a time. It would take forever. I had one pic that I know was the match. The images two images were exactly alike. Problem - one was coming from my F drive, the other from my E drive (two separate ex HDs). So, it did not consider it a match. Then it wouldn't let me out of the program. It was like it wanted to me click thousands of times (OK button) until I found a match. I can plug both external hard-drives in at the same time. However, it appears to me that I would still have to go one picture at a time to match up the 20k pics that do not match. In short, I have made a big mess. And, it seems to me, the only way to fix it -- it to start over.
Or, I can not bother with it. I still got 80K that are matched up fine. And, if and when I come across a pic that I want to work on that is 'disconnected', at that time, I can work on reconnecting that one pic.
I am thankful PSE quickly told me how many were not connected. I just wish they had just as quick of way to reconnect them all. However, I can't expect them to do ALL the thinking!
Currently, and what I choose to stick with -- is all my pics in one folder that is on my ONE external HD. The other external I will leave unplugged and just use as needed (it has my docs, videos, mp3's, etc).
So, I have many options and I would like some assistance in choosing the best way to go.
1. Delete the current catalog (back it up first? To save edits and stacks? Does a back up do that? But, why back up 20K disc-connected pics?) and start ALL OVER again. I think that would fix the disc connect problem for the most part.
2. Ignore the dis-connected pics. They only make up 20% of my catalog. If I am working on a photo that is dis-connected, at that time -- connect it. Just take them one at a time, if and when needed. I am retired due to a disability and just do this as a hobby.
3. Find a 'Fairy God Mother' that will grant me one wish. I wish for all of my dis-connected files to become INSTANTLY connected!
Or ? ? ?
Thanks,
Dean
