First off, please accept my apologies, I've had to go a day early because I'm travelling tomorrow and won't be around for the rest of the week. Which means I've had less images to choose from, and I've no doubt given a problem for jackscrap as next week's judge as there will be a bumper crop for her to select from.
Well, after Blackmutt's wonderful festival of birds, I feel there is a slight theme of abstract and artistic images that have drawn my eye this week.
Two honourable mentions to highlight:
dandc's Just a Few Drops

A lovely subtle close up. The danger I find with macros of flowers is that because there is so much effort in focusing I tend to always over-sharpen as that becomes the be-all and end-all. But that isn't the case here, it is perfectly judged, the filter and processing has added an almost ethereal feel to it, whilst maintaining the details in the stamen and pistil. The image is placed in just the right place in the frame to create interest and allows the eye to flow into the background to the out of focus detail. And then you note clever things like how every corner is finished off with a darker part of the image which gives a pleasing framing to the whole.

The colours and designs are just so beautifully selected and balanced. I have no idea how it was created, but it is a gorgeous piece of art. I have found myself staring at it for ages tracing shapes that I think I can see: birds, dogs, leaves, fish, a helmet, cats' ears, mountains, valleys, a jumper and so much more. But what it makes me think of most of all is cave art, but in the 21st century; if only Neanderthal man had photoshop.
But for me the Image of the Week this week is:
Kathylee's A Little Shade

Normally I'd be shouting 'lighten those shadows' but not here; the great band of darkness adds mystery as to what is taking her attention, counterpointed by that wonderful beacon of a straw hat that dominates the image, but in a good way. And with the person being perfectly positioned so as not to break the two lit pictures on display this could have been staged, but it feels spontaneously caught. And the figure is just that - really just a dress and a hat, so becomes an 'everywoman' type figure, which puts the viewer right in there.
Congratulations and thanks to everyone who has posted images this week.
