Great pictures, Clive. You say curling is better watched on TV. You may see more, but you don't have the atmosphere which being in a stadium brings.

You may see more, but you don't have the atmosphere which being in a stadium brings. Thanks whippet! Was fun. Yes, that's exactly correct whippet. We enjoyed the evening a lot. When the Canada game ended (Sweden beat Canada and they quit early), Japan was still playing Scotland. There was a gang of local Scotland supporters (undoubtedly alcohol boosted) and a small group of Japanese supporters...both groups were quite close together. They both had flags and drums. They got into a fun, back-and-forth "dueling drums" and flag waving competition. Was funny. Everyone was laughing and gave them a round of applause at the end. Great fun.

This is what it is all about, isn't it. Not like the hooligans which go to football matches to cause trouble.
The Scottish ladies used to be world champions. I don't know if they still are.
Curling originated in Scotland, didn't it?

Thanks all. Yes, curling is a wee Scottish sport. Eve Muirhead a Scottish curler won a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi as part of Team GB and is the 2013 World Champion. (Wiki.) We watched Canada and Sweden last night and both teams have great records. Niklas Edin (Sweden ...second photo down) is a two-time medal winner in the Olympics, with a silver at the 2018 Winter Olympics and the bronze in 2014. He is a three-time World champion (2013, 2015, 2018), six-time European champion (2009, 2012, 2014-2017). Kevin Koe (canada...second from bottom) is a two-time World champion and four-time Canadian champion. John Shuster was not playing last night. He is an American curler. He led team USA to gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Helen, yes our very own srmoment is a renowned curler. (I will only post her fabulous curling record with permission. ) Clive

Amazing photos considering the lighting Clive. For those who are new to the game, it is like chess on ice with physical fitness thrown in. There is nothing quite like sliding on ice, manoeuvring a 40 lb rock to spin a certain way to smash into other rocks or to land on a small target some distance away. It is even more fun [...and stressful] to wear your country's flag on your back at the world competition. ...and best of all are the friendships you make and maintain along the way. [...much like this site, where many of us have been here a long, long time!]
having said all that, I don't play much any more because it is cold, and I've have taken up the very frustrating game of golf. ahaha even more frustrating, is trying to learn the art of composition with my trusty camera.
...and speaking of my trusty camera, let me tell you a story about my latest adventure to snow country. I trekked down train tracks, clamored through 3 feet of snow to climb a very tall group of rocks to take a picture of said train tracks. I was about six feet up on a rock looking through my camera lens at the tracks, when I heard a noise behind me ...flap, flap, flap and out of the corner of my eye saw/felt moving black. I then felt like I had something stuck in my hair. Of course I completely freaked out, almost fell of the rock, and twirled around prepared to fight anything. The perpretrator was sitting on another rock staring at me with beady eyes, apparently contemplating another attack. It was either a very large crow, or a raven and I think it spotted the 'bling - shiny metallic strands' tied into my hair and was trying to pull them out. Needless to say I have a picture of the perp should he try something like that again!

So glad you survived to tell that story, Pat! I admire your athletic prowess to get yourself into that predicament!

The perpetrator was sitting on another rock staring at me with beady eyes, apparently contemplating another attack. Great story Pat. I'd guess it was a raven, but who knows? They are crazy smart and ravens always look dishelled like they they slept in late or had a dust up. We've discussed arena lighting here previously. Just not great lighting. As Helen knows gymnasiums are the worst. "to wear your country's flag on your back at the world competition. " For those who do not know, I'll brag. Amongst many other titles, Pat skipped her team to the 1987 Women's World Curling championship and a few years later won the World Senior Women’s gold medal!! And much more! Amazing Pat. Clive
