Pete B., if I follow your instructions, is that starting from scratch?

Hi For clarification, I tried to follow your original notes and look for missteps. But not knowing the original tutorial steps, I got confused. Then I saw that you posted the following image and I assumed that it was your “work in process”. My reply is related to that image. You do not need to start over if you still have this “in progress” image. If this is not your image, my instructions will not help.

I always wanted to try this effect. Here's my first attempt. I followed a Gavin Hoey video for the step by step instructions with little difficulty.

I followed the same Gavin Hoey tutorial. Not pleased with this effort. Certainly not as good as Zman's above.

Seattleddc - sometimes it’s the photo, but in this case, it may be because he has changed the perspective of the background and yours is straight on. That look - with the background lying on the ground - is kinda what this kind of OOB is all about. Without that, you just have the subject outside a frame.

As far as the perspective of the frame/border in the OOB effect, the choice is yours. There is no written-in-stone rule as to the position of the framed area -- at an angle, lying on the ground, etc. You can see the variety of interpretations of that tutorial in CE Challenge #95.
Here is what the OOB effect is all about.

I can see what Janice is referring to as far as the image of the baseball player is concerned. If the perspective was changed and the shadow softened, I think seattleddc might be more pleased with his attempt.
