I installed Google Chrome, a big mistake, to try to fix another problem. It seems to have taken over my computer. Even though I've trashed it and emptied the trash, when I try to open PSE 14 I get "scanning for presets..." and it takes several minutes before it finally opens. I've followed all the advice I can find on getting rid of Google Chrome but it seems Google is attached to many, many programs and I can't get rid of them.
Long story. Any advice would be very much appreciated. I've spent hours trying to fix it all to no good.

You might consider using the restore point set just prior to installing Chrome. This will return your computer to it's working state without Chrome.
What problem were you attempting to fix?

If you're talking about Time Machine, I tried that once a few days ago and it didn't fix the problem. So I tried it again now and went back to April 1, and is far it seems to be working. I'll shut down awhile and see if it still works.
Thanks for your suggestion.

My reference to restore points doesn't apply to MACs
Since you have Time Machine maybe you enabled Time Capsule which should provide the option to recover MAC OS to a previous date.
