This is the original image.
I played around in filters, and came up with this.
I really liked it - until I added the dove. I put it in, because it seemed bare in that area.

I love the stained glass window effect, how about a smaller flock of birds in the background. The original image is lovely.

A flock of smaller birds is a good idea - then lessen the opacity so there’s only a hint of them - blending into the background.

whippet, in my opinion the original shot is perfect. The way the sun light reflects from the leaves and the foreground stones is what one tries to impart to a dull shot, but it would take great skill to do that even half as well. I certainly couldn't, I find applying details of light and reflections very difficult. I would not add anything, it makes a statement as is. Filters can only dull this picture.
To put a frame around it, I would try a very thin stroke picking up the color of the foremost stone. At the present size probably no more than 5 or 6 pixels. A little more for a larger size.
And by the way, I love it. Rita

I agree the original photo is very cool, but I got the impression whippet wanted to "play" and that was the reason for the work on the original - not necessarily to improve it, but to see what could be made from it.

What a lovely starter image whippet and it’s great to have a play with different effects etc; that’s how you learn.
You’ve got a nice texture on the image and I like your idea with the stained glass but for me it has been cropped or zoomed in on a tad too much and doesn’t leave much room for manoeuvre when it comes to adding something else.
I like the idea of a flock of smaller birds as suggested by jackscrap and if more room had been left to the sides of the structure I could also picture an image of a moor horse or a highland cow placed in the background with much reduced opacity to melt it into the mist. Rather than put a border on the image I would probably go for a plain matt behind it and a frame on that.
But it’s what you like that matters.
Did you have anything particular in mind or were you just playing and experimenting…

Thank you all for your most welcome input. I have had the original for a while now, and, yes, I did crop it. There was more of the same to the sides. I didn't know what to do about a frame, so I put a bevel on. I wanted to keep an air of mystery to the picture. I really like the idea of a flock of birds. I just have to see if I can get rid of the dove. And a Highland coo would be good - if I can find the uncropped image. I had thought of putting a light behind the window. But, apart from not knowing how to do that, I decided it was better as it was.
Again, thank you all, your suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you, Sepiana.
I should have known as that is where I usually get pictures from.

I loved these horses when I saw them. So my original plan has been discarded (for now).
edit. Just looking at the enlargement, is the horse in the window a bit too big? Unfortunately, I can't change it now.

Yes whippet I'm afraid I think the horse in the window is a bit out of proportion. You say you can't change it - I take it that means you didn't save your file as a PSD because if you did you could open it up and change things around if you wanted. Maybe something to think about for the future... Having said that it's looking good. I love the addition of both the birds and the horses.

I don’t think the horse is necessarily too large, it just makes one assume the window and structure are smaller. It looks good to me, as do the birds in the upper right

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I never thought of it that way, Janice. Lillias. I am afraid I am one of those, who, if I don't think I have any more use for anything - then out it goes. My friend, who is a hoarder, will testify to that, as she has rescued me several times.
