This new discussion gave me the idea to setup a poll:
The question is to better understand how users in this forum do manage face recognition in their preferred editing and organizing software. Please, take part in the poll, even if you don't use automatic face recognition.

Maybe I am just odd (a common opinion) ....never have used organizer. I try to organize in File Explorer and usually can find things. Usually. As time passes that is more of a challenge 1) because the number of image adds up and 2) brain cell loss.  Clive |

I've abandoned the Organizer about 3 years ago and adopted a simple file system: YYYY | ##MM | DD with short descriptor | Sub directory for multiple shoots in a day.
I rely on the Organizer for images prior to 2016

I have been using the Organizer since day 1. Imho it is brilliant. It ticks all the boxes for me.
The ability to catalogue images however you like by category, sub category and keywords allows me to do google type searches in the organizer to find images. It's so easy for me to find images for any event and/or date very quickly.
In the poll I said I don't use face recognition. I don't have any need for it.

I've voted that I use it in Lightroom, but I wouldn't say I actively do; I thought I'd try it out when I first starting using Lightroom and now it just pops up so I confirm or change as required. And to be honest the vast majority of my pictures don't include people. But I have to say it does a surprisingly good job (a bit worrying when you think 'big brother stuff' and how we can now be tracked). I stick with it because one day I'm sure I'll want to find 'all images containing person x' but it isn't something I need every day, and I hadn't noticed any issues with performance. The main down side for me is that if I ever were to upload an image which contains family or friends to Flickr I have to remember to check that personal info has been removed (the box is ticked by default but I'll always want to double check being the slight obsessive I am) but to be honest I very rarely share these particular images on any public sites. And by the same token I remove coordinates from any pictures taken at home etc, but that's a whole different discussion.

I have used the Organizer since 2007, and have been very happy with it. I am now with version 14. I never used face recognition as I already know the people I find useful to identify, mostly family members and friends, for whom I have created a hierarchical structure of tags. For family, the structure kind of follows a genealogic order, with a few rules of my own, created now and then depending on different circumstances, mainly to avoid too many layers of subcategories.
In my view, the organizer offers powerful searching possibilities that can hardly be matched by any classification system that would exclusively be based on the names of the directories where the photos are stored. As for the presentation of the images in the Media tab, under the “View” menu, I keep the following items clicked: “Details”, “File Names” and “Grid Lines”. It makes browsing much easier and useful, compared to only seeing a bunch of photos side by side with no information at all.
If you want to start using the Organizer, I would recommend planning your tagging hierarchy accordingly to your needs and trying it on a small scale so you can fine tune it before starting tagging all your photos.
I now use Lightroom instead of the Organizer. My experience with the latter served me well, but there is no use to keep updating two different classification systems. For the same reasons I have already stated, I do not use face recognition in Lightroom either.

Thanks michelb for creating this poll! As you know, I posted the question about Organizer being a memory hog, which you appropriately suggested I should have entitled "Is Face Recognition causing Organizer to be a memory hog?". I really hope more members will respond to your poll, maybe after Easter participation will pick up. As of today, I'm certainly in the minority that uses this feature.
As mentioned in my previous post, I'm gonna give Face Recognition a good try. Afterwards, if I decide it's not the tool I hoped it would be in helping me organize my many photos and videos, I'll let the community know. Either way, I hope my and other's experiences will be of help to others that visit or join this community.
