When I built my Windows 10, 64bit system about 4 years ago, I thought that I was a hotshot having 16GB of RAM. I've done video editing with Premiere Elements for years. Knowing how each new version includes new feature, I assumed that I was well prepared with my new machine to go about my merry way for some time. To clarify, my focus is on hundreds of home videos, most lasting a few minutes, but some go on for quite a while. Things have worked smoothly for me, but I must say that I'm not one to use a lot of "wow" effects. I also use Photoshop Elements to edit many family photos, and have never had a problem, until recently.
Regarding my problem, I started a new discussion in the Photoshop Elements Organizer section photoshopelementsandmore.com/thread/5716/organizer-memory-hog It details how since I started focusing on Elements Organizer for the first time and it has created a very large catalog. I'm now experiencing problems with RAM use, sometimes resulting in system lockups. As michelb pointed out about my post, I should have been more specific by saying that Face Recognition appears to be a memory hog.
Yesterday I received a newsletter from "How-To Geek, entitled "Windows 10 Now Requires 12-16 GB More Storage" and was really surprised to learn that I am operating with only the MINIMUM of RAM recommended for my desktop unit, soon to be less than minimum! I am not so geeky that I constantly read up on such matters, so this one really gave me pause. Even more concerning was the paragraph in that article "If you have an existing PC with less than 32 GB of storage running Windows 10, we’re not sure what happens to your device. It may never receive an update to the May 2019 Update (version 1903.) That’s up to Microsoft."
Fortunately, my motherboard has plenty of room for additional RAM. So, as soon as I can, I'm upping my RAM and it will be interesting to see if doing so impacts my memory problem with Elements Organizer when using Face Recognition
