This happens most years...the geese lay eggs and then we get a snow. They are a hardy bunch. On warm, sunny days the females will cover the eggs and go for a swim, snack and drink. They are gone for only a short while and the eggs stay warm. But not today...and probably not for a few days. That's dad on the pond behind. He never goes far and gets cranky if anyone gets too close. (Because the nest is in the open and near walkers, I am a bit surprised she has not abandoned the nest...could still happen. I've seen several geese nest on the "mainland" over the years and not one set has hatched off. Too much foot traffic and dogs.)

Oh, poor things. I have seen them here, but they nest on sheltered islands on park lakes.

whippet Most of our geese nest around water away from urban areas, but many locals birds nest in urban parks and most on nesting islands away from people. This couple set up shop on shore so I can get close. She allows me to get within about 10 meters or so. Clive
