I am inserting a new sky into a photo with a church steeple. The swap is working fine but when I use the Quick Selection Tool it always selects some of the steeple. I zoom in (using the Control + Spacebar) then use the Alt key in an attempt to place the marching ants around the steeple. It is really hit and miss. Anyone have a better suggestion on how to outline something like the steeple better? Oh, I forgot I'm using Elements 11.
Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary, welcome to PSE&M!
You could try the Magnetic Lasso. This tool will snap to the outline of any object which is clearly defined. In this way, you won't have to worry about following the edge exactly.
Use the Magnetic Lasso tool

If 11 has such, you can use the plain old selection brush, set to remove from selection (or hold alt), and remove the steeple from the selection. If you make a duplicate background layer (Ctl-J), then add adjustment layer > threshold; move the adjustment slider to about 230 or so; this turns the sky white and everything else black, making selections much easier. Another method I use is to protect anything that is similar to sky color by circling it with the lasso, invert selection; then, with contigious un-checked, and a low tolerance, click the magic eraser on the sky; if the sky is of varying colors, you may need to click a few more times. Hope some of this is of help.
