From this evening's walk. We are lucky to have the ponds out our front door.

We have quite a few blackbirds come into our garden to feed. One pair are nesting in my Montana clematis, which is just starting to flower. So the birds will be amongst a beautiful perfume. As you may know, our birds are completely black. That yellow is a brilliant shade, isn't it. Beautiful.

Thanks whippet. These YHBBs are common around ponds here in spring. One came to our feeders in the snow the other day, but that's unusual. They have a coarse, raspy call. We also have pretty red-winged BBs, but none will let me get close this spring...also pretty with pleasant call and an annoying call. We also have all-black BBs (Brewer's BB) and a true parasitic pest BB, the brown-headed cowbird, a BB that lays its eggs in nests of other species. I will keep trying to get a decent red-wing photo... have many in the archives.
