It's getting harder and harder to find a place to mail a letter here but at least when you do find one they are a bit more photogenic than the "big old red boxes" The decoration is using the first three characters of the 6 character Canadian Postal Code - the first three being the geographic area.
Tony, you found a very unusual mailbox -- an artsy one. Great idea getting close to your subject; it enhanced the decorations. Clear and vivid details!

In the lobby of the old Post Office.
Bill, what a finding! You did a great job capturing this vintage "jewel". Beautiful composition and tonal range!
And just for grins ... here's the rest of the lobby. The post office is no longer in use, but the upper floors serve as a courthouse. I understand they are gorgeous ... and sometimes offer tours!
Thanks for adding this image! It brings it all together. Beautiful Post Office lobby (not the kind we usually see these days)!
And just out of curiosity . . . do you know if this building has been considered worthy of preservation by the National Register of Historic Places?

kdcintx ,
You found a traditional mailbox (one which seems to be disappearing from our streets). I really like your choice of a portrait orientation; our eyes are immediately drawn to the mailbox. Another job well done!

Thank for the comments Sepiana ... they are appreciated as always. Yes, the building was added in 1979. Here's the full info if anyone is interested. www.gsa.gov/historic-buildings/gus-j-solomon-us-courthouse-portland-or
