Was hoping for a summer thunderstorm but got a rainbow instead.....well part of one. Helen, you got not one rainbow but two. It can’t get any better. Nice job!

This one I took last week but I thought it fitted the theme and I couldn't get a repeat this week! Briefly summer is the time when snapping turtles lay their eggs and last week, while walking in the local park I found 3 of them laying eggs. The locations were pretty vulnerable (turtles aren't good at picking safe spots) so I passed the pics and locations on to the park people and have now heard that they recovered 66 eggs from two of the "nests" and they are being incubated. I hope to be present for the release of the baby turtles at the end of summer in about 90 days. So here's one of the snapping turtles in the middle of laying eggs: Tony, what a capture! This image takes the top honors! Not something one sees very often -- a snapping turtle laying her eggs. Thanks for acknowledging when you took this shot! Yes, indeed, you couldn’t ask Mother Turtle for an encore. BTW, I would love to see a photo of those eggs being incubated. They would also fit the "Summer" theme.

Clive, great idea -- a shot of a prickly pear cactus + a shot of the "lay of the land". Very colorful!

Bailey, There is a plenty of leeway in the "Summer" theme. If one is in the southern hemisphere, summer is a fleeting memory but this memory can be captured to fulfill this theme. What brings back those memories of summer? It could be a shot of an ice-cream cone, of a book (summer-reading), of bare feet, of a beach, etc, etc. No problem Sepiana. Thank you for accepting the old photos. I have been busy taking photos during the last 3 days for another project so didn't have time to look for something specific for this week.

Helen, a swimming-pool is definitely a Summer "thing". I like the angle of your shot (looking down), instead of the usual shooting at eye level.

We see pronghorn antelope regularly throughout the spring and summer, but they seem to leave the area for a winter range somewhere else, because after September, they disappear for the winter. I spotted this handsome fellow on my way to town for groceries last week. If he looks a little raggedy, it's because he's in the process of shedding and regrowing his winter coat.

Great job capturing the details on his fur and the markings on his face. Beautiful animal!

On the patio, planning the day while the sun is rising. Canoeing? Cycling? Hiking? Lets have another coffee. Fauxtoto, perfect for this theme. Your colorful, detailed, and timely image says it all -- Summer. What an inviting patio to sit on and plan one's summer day!

On the patio, planning the day while the sun is rising. Canoeing? Cycling? Hiking? Lets have another coffee. Finally my beloved wife and I decided to go for a hike. Having my honorable PSE&M friends in mind, and to complete this light and humble contribution of mine on summer, I got the idea of adding to it a picture of the trail we would be doing. So, I brought my camera. After walking for a while, I found the spot for the perfect shot. It was showing the trail on the edge of the forest as well as the lake it was surrounding. We would almost hear the birds signing on the image I was about to create. My camera was already turned on. I looked in the viewfinder, carefully adjusted my settings, meticulously framed, and pressed on the shutter. With confidence, I pressed on the playback button to look at the results on the screen, where the following message appeared: “No card in camera”. The card was still at home in my desktop computer, from earlier in the day when I extracted and posted the image mentioned above as a humble summer contribution of mine. Dear honorable PSE&M friends, you will have to take my word for it: I love summer, the hike was extremely pleasant and the image I never took very nice.
